Our Story

What began with tools has grown into something bigger.

Sutcliffe Hansen was founded by Marshall Sutcliffe (Wristwatch Revival) and Alex Hansen to make watch repair more approachable. What began as a way to help enthusiasts get the right tools has grown into a full-service vintage watch restoration studio.

Today we've completed hundreds of vintage watch restorations. Every single one receives a fully documented disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning, precision servicing, and a detailed condition report before any work begins.

Our certified watchmakers follow the same transparent, respectful approach seen on the Wristwatch Revival YouTube channel: no surprises, no shortcuts, no undocumented interventions. You always know exactly what's happening to your watch — and why.

Submitting a watch to Sutcliffe Hansen is not an application to appear on the Wristwatch Revival channel. Marshall works closely with our team to maintain standards, but restorations are performed by our certified watchmakers.

Our Philosophy

Three principles guide every restoration.

01 — Preserve

First, do no harm.

Original parts, original finish, original character. We replace only what is worn beyond serviceability — and we document our reasoning every time. Patina is not a flaw; it's a record of a life lived.

02 — Document

Full transparency, every step.

You receive a detailed condition report before any work begins, photo updates throughout, and a complete service record when your watch ships home. Nothing happens without your knowledge and approval.

03 — Restore

Brought back to life.

Hundreds of vintage watches have left our shop running accurately, sealed properly, and looking exactly as they should — nothing more, nothing less. We take the long view on craft.
